Years 4-6 Finalists and Judge's Comments
Alice K (Room 9, Year 6): The Animal Olympics 2012
Really nice story-telling and great use of animation – your movie presents a great message for everyone. Scrolling words clearly tell the story, in between a careful sequence of scenes, with a good beginning, middle and end. I like your clever use of a backdrop and the way you shot the scenes with the door. The music matches the story and its message beautifully. Good animation techniques and use of props with this – especially the scene with the marble as a hockey ball. How very clever of you to put the Olympic medal on your characters the way you did! Your characters really came to life and I felt like I knew them. Tip – take special care with your punctuation before publishing your movie.
Angus C, Georgia A, Josh, Lachie B (Room 6, Year 4): Greek Hospitality
A great script and nice close-up shots for this movie – I really felt like I had travelled back in time. Your voices are all nice and clear and the music matches the important message about Greek Hospitality – it is very friendly! Your costumes look great. Your movie has a nice documentary feel about it (that means it gives good information about something that really happened), and has a great ending.
Ripora, Jess, Daniella, Isabella K (Room 6, Year 4): Greek Talk - Archimedes
A great trip back in time. It was an excellent idea to demonstrate what Archimedes discovered, and not just tell the story. There was some great expression with your nice clear voices, and some very realistic acting, especially by Archimedes. You made good use of close-up shots so the viewer could hear you easily and see the action. Your camera action is quite steady – well done. One tip would be to learn your parts carefully so you don’t need the script, although it worked well when the script was held out of sight near the camera.
Libby, Sophie (Room 5, Year 5): All Dressed Up
Great use of still photography, enhanced with some dramatic video enacting the Jackdaw losing the colourful feathers it had taken. Perhaps you could have acted the whole story like this (outdoors would have been good). You showed the colourful dropped feathers in a clever way in your still photography. Your voices were very clear and expressive for the narration. This story has an important message that you tell very clearly. A nice story!
Bryn (Year 4) and John (Room 5, Year 5): The Black Lion and his Three Brothers
You made good use of simple animation to tell a story with an important message. You did an especially good job of taking care to animate all the characters in each scene. That was a cool snake! Your story is clearly told with your well-written script and clear voices – and you spoke at a good pace, not too fast. It was a shame you ran out of animation photos a little soon and left your view in ‘darkness’.
